Days of Change for Life

Writer: Phil UnderwoodPhil Underwood

Today is a day of change.

From one of the most influential change agents in United States history, Dr Martin Luther King, Jr., comes this quote -

"Change does not roll in on the wheels of inevitability, but comes through continuous struggle."

We live in a world of constant change. We cannot stay the same. Change is inevitable because life is more fluid than static.

This day also marks a change of leadership in our nation, which affects us and the world at large because of our international presence. We pray together, from every ideology, for a gracious transition and responsible government.

Our first President, General George Washington, gave us an understanding of the government's potential for good and harm. He shared,

“Government is not reason, it is not eloquence-it is force! Like fire it is a dangerous servant and a fearful master; never for a moment should it be left to irresponsible action.”

It must be handled with wisdom.

What necessary changes are you contemplating in and around your life and pursuits? Does your purpose and dream understand intentional action to achieve it is a continuous struggle?

I offer you this prayer today, on a day of change, commemoratively and ceremoniously.

“Father, you are a God who is the same yesterday, today, and tomorrow. Yet you wove into our human existence the clock of time, aging, development, and possibilities that demand our attention to change and becoming. My priority is to be led by the Holy Spirit, followed by the trust of unhurried faith. I commit to obedience to your way and your will. Your word promises, “There has never been the slightest doubt in my mind that the God who started this great work in you would keep at it and bring it to a flourishing finish on the very day Christ Jesus appears.” * May it be so that I would stay in a place of usefulness to your most significant work in me and through me. Work in me as I endeavor to see Christ formed in my life. Amen.”

*(Paul, Philippians 1.6, The Message Translation)
