Rethink. Reframe. Renovate.

Have you heard of Jesus? I know you have. His life was uniquely extraordinary. He was born to die to live.

One of the people most impacted by his life and death was Saul, later renamed Paul to communicate the dramatic change of life he experienced. He was confronted by Jesus years after the events of the death and resurrection. In the ensuing days Saul was given the opportunity that we are all given - to rethink life in light of Jesus' message, to reframe our life with the purpose of God, and renovate our life with the ability of the Holy Spirit.

Jesus called this discipleship. He gave his followers, disciples that he had taught and mentored, developing them to be a mirror of his life, the responsibility to do what he did - mentor, teach, and develop others in his way of life. Modern Christianity teaches that if you believe in who Jesus is, are baptized, and are nice, you are a Christian. How short-sighted that is when you consider Jesus' life, teaching, and the conclusions of the New Testament writers and contributors.

With this reality in mind, I would like to share two questions with you.

  • Have you ever wondered what it would be like to be a disciple?

  • How do we become a disciple?

In very simple terms, I will share my discoveries with you and then invite you into discovery experience with me into the life of a disciple.

Dallas Willard, the late philosopher and professor at the University of Southern California, defines a disciple as someone 'in the process of becoming who Jesus would be if he were you.'

So, if I am on this quest to discover the image of Jesus in my own life, what will the result be?

In the movie Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, Indiana searches for the Holy Grail, believed to be the chalice Jesus drank from at the Last Supper, thinking it would offer healing for his father, who is suffering from a gunshot wound. As he seems to be dying, he helps his son navigate an unknown path when suddenly they discover they are to walk in the ‘name of God.’ They do this by following a path of letters that spell the Latin equivalent of Jehovah.

Once Indy gets past that place of having a visual path to follow, he moves forward to a place where there is no path. Instead of a path, he is greeted by an infinite abyss below him and where he wants to go. His self-speech is the truth of Scripture that reminds him to go forward in faith. With no apparent relief in sight, he takes a step into the unknown. He has no control, no ability, and no power to keep from falling…yet, he does not fall. With each step into nothingness, a path begins to emerge that leads him to his destination.

That is where I would like you to go with me, into faith. Each step in faith, toward God's ideal life, will bring clarity for what is next. As we begin let's begin with the following explanation of the development path of a disciple as outlined by Jesus in Matthew's biography: "...go and make disciples of all the nations and baptize them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Teach them to observe all that I have commanded you and, remember, I am with you always, even to the end of the world.”

Soul Wise Discipleship

  • Become immersed in who God is, completely soaked in his reality. Thoroughly baptized.

    • Immersed in His Fatherhood, providing and developing security and belonging

    • Immersed in the Sonship of Jesus, giving you purpose, meaning, and gifting

    • Immersed in the Holy Spirit, empowering you for supernatural living and presence awareness.

  • Learn the ways of Jesus by becoming a studious follower of His life teachings.

    • Interacting with His directions for living

    • Learning the relationship of prayer

    • Accepting the commission to be a difference-maker and agent of the Kingdom

  • Experience 24/7 relationship, partnership, and fellowship with God and people.
